The Empowered Actor Workshop

A MINI-CONSERVATORY IN MID-JULY

Building off of their popular “tune-up” workshops, Kristi Dana, Amanda Holston, Elizabeth Ostler, and Stephen Kaliski are now offering The Empowered Actor, an expanded, 5-day mini-conservatory this July that will bring to emerging actors cutting edge techniques in voice, body, and performance as well as uplifting ideas for the demanding journey ahead.

With The Empowered Actor, go deeper with your work through:

– Classes in Acting, Voice and Speech, Alignment, and Communal Theater
– Exposure to such techniques and influences as Miller Voice Method, YogAlign, Michael Chekhov, Nikos Psacharopolous, Brené Brown,and Declan Donnellan
– Individual, personalized tutorials with each of the four faculty members
– Lab work in a supportive, “failure encouraged” environment
Integration of separate skills into a powerful, repeatable craft

Instructor Bios:

Kristi Dana is an Actor, Director and Adjunct Professor of Voice & Speech at LIU Post and Brooklyn College, CUNY. Past teaching includes American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA) and The College of Staten Island, CUNY. Kristi is a Teaching Apprentice in the Miller Voice Method (mVm) and is mentored by Scott Miller, hosted in part at the Graduate Acting Program at NYU | Tisch School of the Arts (2014 – 2016). Kristi is training towards a certificate of completion with the Michael Chekhov Association (MICHA) and will complete her certification in Knight-Thompson Speechwork (KTS) this summer. She recently performed in New York Shakespeare Exchange’s (NYSX) wildly popular ShakesBeer and can be seen in Sonnet #71 of NYSX’s Sonnet Project (http://sonnetprojectnyc.com/). Amanda Holston is a Functional Movement Educator and YogAlign Instructor, certified RYT 200 Hrs from Kaua’i Yoga School. She is also a theater artist (director/actor) with her MFA in Acting from Brooklyn College and a BA in Theater from Temple University. Amanda has acted in Off-Broadway and Regional Theater, Film, TV, and Voice Over. She offers postural re-alignment work to actors, corporate clients, and everyone in between through workshops and private sessions in Philadelphia and NYC. Elizabeth Ostler is a theater-maker, specializing in directing and puppetry and a creativity coach. She is the creator of Communal Theater, an ideological approach to creating theater rooted in the belief that theater should be a communion between the audience and the theater event. She is the founder and CEO of Life’s Echoes Creativity Coaching (www.lifesechoes.com). Liz is the co-founder of the NYC Artist Group which offers professional development workshops and networking opportunities for NYC theater artists. She holds a MFA in theater directing from Brooklyn College and a BA in liberal arts from Sarah Lawrence College.

Stephen Kaliski is a stage director, playwright, and teacher. He has taught public speaking, acting, and master classes on leadership and joy at Fordham, Brooklyn College, Yale, LIU Post, NYU, The Professional Performing Arts School, Talent Unlimited High School, and BMCC.
